Getting to Grips with Guided Reading: 3 May 2019 – £50
Guided Reading has long been a topic of much discussion. In recent times there has been a shift in schools believing that small group instruction should make way for larger, whole class learning. The carousel is fast becoming a thing of the past.
This workshop will bring together some of those ideas and will explore ways to implement whole class Guided Reading sessions as a school. It is suitable for Key Stage 2 teachers but may also be open to Year 2 if required.
- Explore that rationale behind whole class Guided Reading
- Identify how whole class Guided Reading can work including core skills needing to be taught
It will also provide:
- Opportunities to develop planning
- Advice on high quality texts
- Ideas and activities to try out
This is a 2 ½ hour workshop with the latter half being an opportunity to plan Guided Reading sessions for delegates’ own classes so therefore end timings will be flexible.
Delegates will need to come along with either themes and ideas or texts that they would like to plan from.
Attending this workshop will also provide you with access to drop in surgeries for follow up advice.
“This approach has made such a difference to the quality of learning in my class…. Thank you”
“I don’t worry about low level tasks in my Guided Reading lessons anymore; I can keep children on task now”
